Say goodbye to the struggle of loading your large dog into your vehicle with Big Ass Steps! These are lightweight, compact, and portable dog steps are designed with the big dog owner in mind, supporting up to 200 pounds and weighing 8 lbs (4-step) or just under 13 lbs (5-step).

Before you buy

Will they fit your ride?

Loading from a rear hatch, cargo area, or truck bed? You’re in great shape — there’s no door to fight and nothing to measure. Just pick your size by height below.

Loading through a back-seat side door? One measurement decides it, and it is the single most common reason a set comes back to us:

19.25"  of clear door-sill width

The 4-Step is 18.9" across and the 5-Step is a fat 19". Hit either of those exactly and you have zero margin — so measure your door sill at its narrowest point and look for 19.25". The corners curve in, so the usable opening is always less than the door looks.

Three things that stop a back-seat fit even when the width is close:

  • Door swing — many rear doors only open to about 75°, so you never get the full sill.
  • Door rake — a steeply angled opening pushes the steps forward into the door.
  • Square to the vehicle — if the opening only lets them sit at an angle, they seat twisted, and twisted is not safe.

Measuring under 28"? Neither unit is right for you — below that the 4-Step has to stretch out so far it flattens toward a ramp and stops being stable underfoot. Minivans, sedans, and low crossovers usually land here.

FAQs

Is this easy for one small person to use?

These steps are super-light and compact, but don't be fooled! They've been used to load up Mastiffs, Newfies, German Shepherds and all sorts of other big ass dogs!

Will my dog be able to use these steps?

We're sure your dog can use the steps, but let's be honest - anything new will likely take some patience and training! Work with your pup and you (and your back) won't regret it!

Will the steps work from the side using the rear passenger door?

This is very vehicle-to-vehicle specific, but it is unlikely. Most rear passenger doors do not open wide enough to have room for the steps to sit securely on the rear door sill. They will NOT work with a Jeep Gladiator.
