Here is the problem with shopping for a giant dog bed: the pet industry stops at extra large, and extra large usually means 48 inches. That is the minimum for a 120 lb dog, not a bed built for one.
So you buy the biggest thing on the shelf, it arrives, and your dog sleeps with their hips on the floor. Again.
Every bed on this page starts where most brands stop. Our smallest is 52 inches. Our largest is 79.
What “Extra Large” Actually Means Out There
There is no standard. One brand's XL is another brand's large, and almost nobody publishes dimensions above the fold. The sizes you will find shopping elsewhere land roughly here:
-
Large — about 36 inches. A Lab.
-
Extra large — about 42 to 48 inches. A Shepherd, or a Dane sleeping curled and unhappy.
-
XXL — about 48 to 54 inches, when it exists at all.
A stretched-out Great Dane is 48 to 60 inches nose to tail. A Mastiff is heavier through the shoulder than anything those beds were foam-rated for. This is why the reviews on giant beds everywhere else read the same: great bed, wish it were bigger.
Measure the Dog, Then Buy the Bed
Wait until your dog is asleep and stretched out on their side. Measure nose to base of tail. Add 6 to 12 inches. That is your minimum bed length — not a suggestion, a floor.
Dogs that curl can go to the lower end. Dogs that sprawl flat need the upper end and then some, because they move at night and a bed they overshoot is a bed they stop using.

Why 79 Inches Exists
79 inches is longer than a twin mattress. That sounds absurd until you watch a 180 lb English Mastiff go from curled to fully extended in their sleep and take up every inch of it.
The Gigantic Ass Bed is 12 inches tall with a 4-inch orthopedic core and a cooling layer, tested with dogs over 200 lbs. The height matters as much as the length: a heavy dog on a thin bed is a dog on the floor with extra steps.
It is also the answer for people searching for a human sized dog bed — because at 79 by 36 you fit on it too, and if you own a giant breed you already know you will end up on it eventually.
The Mistake Almost Everyone Makes
Buying one size down to save money. It is the single most common regret in this category, and it costs more in the end because the bed gets replaced inside a year.
Two other things worth knowing before you order:
-
Measure your floor, not only your dog. A 79-inch bed is most of a wall. Pick the spot first.
-
Foam thickness scales with weight, not length. A long bed with thin foam still bottoms out. Over 150 lbs, look for at least 4 inches of high-density core.

Giant Beds for Senior Giant Dogs
Large breeds are seniors at five or six, not seven, and by then the bed is doing medical work. Entry height and foam density matter more than surface area at that stage — a bed they have to climb is a bed they will sleep next to instead of on.
The Bolster Bed at 6.5 inches is the easiest to step onto. The Gigantic Ass Bed at 12 inches gives more support but more to climb, so pair it with Big Ass Steps if your dog has started hesitating.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the biggest dog bed you can buy?
Ours is the Gigantic Ass Bed at 79″ × 36″ × 12″. That is longer than a twin mattress and sized for a fully extended Great Dane or English Mastiff with room left over.
What size bed does a Great Dane need?
Most adult Danes measure 48 to 60 inches stretched out, so the bed needs to be at least 60 and ideally closer to 79. Anything marketed as XL at 48 inches will leave them hanging off one end.
Is there a dog bed big enough for a Mastiff?
Length is rarely the problem with Mastiffs — weight is. A 200 lb dog compresses through thin foam no matter how long the bed is. Look for at least 4 inches of high-density core, which the Gigantic Ass Bed has.
Can two dogs share a giant dog bed?
On the 79-inch bed, comfortably, if they already sleep touching. Two dogs that need their own space need their own beds — no bed solves a personality problem.
Are giant dog beds worth the price?
Compare it to what you have already spent. Most giant breed owners go through three or four undersized beds before buying one that fits. At that point the expensive bed was the cheap one.
What about a massive dog bed for outdoor or truck use?
The Tri-FoldAway folds down and has a ballistic nylon cover with waterproof liners in each foam section, which makes it the one that travels. The Gigantic Ass Bed is built to live in one room.
