Big Ass Apple Barrel Biscuit Bites
From the Bourbon Trail to the Treat Jar
Since this month’s newsletter started with bourbon barrels, it only felt right to include a recipe inspired by the trip.
But before anyone panics: no bourbon for the dogs.
They already make enough questionable decisions sober.
This month’s recipe is a dog-friendly nod to those cozy Bourbon Trail flavors — a little apple, a little oat, a little cinnamon, and a touch of molasses for that rich “barrel-aged snack energy” without the actual barrel-aged chaos.
Big Ass Apple Barrel Biscuit Bites
Ingredients:
- 1 cup oat flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon blackstrap molasses
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon melted coconut oil
- Optional: 1–2 tablespoons water if the dough is too dry
Directions:
Preheat oven to 325°F.
In a mixing bowl, combine the oat flour, rolled oats, and cinnamon.
Add the applesauce, egg, molasses, and melted coconut oil. Mix until a dough forms. If it feels too dry, add a little water one tablespoon at a time.
Roll the dough into small bite-sized balls or flatten it and cut into small squares.
Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until firm.
Let cool completely before serving.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week.
Important note: These are treats, not meal replacements. And as always, check with your vet if your dog has allergies, sensitivities, or special dietary needs.
