A Great Dane is 28 to 34 inches at the shoulder and 110 to 175 lbs, and almost nothing sold for dogs is built with that in mind. Extra large means a Labrador. What Makes Danes Different to Equip
Three things, and every one of them breaks standard gear.
Length. A stretched-out adult Dane measures 48 to 60 inches nose to tail. The industry's largest bed is usually 48 inches, which is a Dane's minimum and not a fit.
Chest depth. Danes are deep and narrow through the ribcage rather than barrel-shaped. Harnesses built on a Lab's proportions either will not fasten or slide forward into the shoulder.
Joints on a short clock. Danes are considered senior around five or six, and hip dysplasia, arthritis and wobbler syndrome are all well documented in the breed. Every jump onto furniture or into a truck is load on joints that were never built for a 150 lb frame.
Beds: How Big a Great Dane Bed Needs to Be
Measure your dog nose to base of tail while they are asleep and stretched on their side, then add 6 to 12 inches. For most adult Danes that puts the floor at 60 inches and the comfortable answer closer to 79.

Harnesses: Why Most Will Not Fit a Dane
The problem is not size, it is shape. A Dane's chest is deep top-to-bottom and comparatively narrow side-to-side, so a harness cut for a broad, shallow-chested dog rides up into the shoulders and chafes.
